Oh, Liberty fans, it's that time of year again, the time where we get to wish for exactly what we want. And today, we're not just asking Santa for the usual toys and gadgets. Today, we're crafting our own liberty Christmas list straight to Santa Claus himself. And don't worry, we're keeping it real. We're keeping it relatable, and, of course, full of that Christmas magic we all know in love. So grab your eggnog, settle in, and let's get our Christmas on liberty style. So before we dive into our Christmas list today First, let's break down what I mean when we're saying we're creating a Liberty Christmas list. That is a small l libertarian Christmas list here to Santa. Now, I'm not talking about those guys in the Libertarian Party who can't stop thinking about transing The kids and cultural progressivism. No, none of that today. No. What we're referring to today are the everyday folks who just want to live their lives and not be encumbered by an overreaching government. So who are we reaching out to the folks who think your money is yours, not the governments that your life should be yours to live, not the states to micromanage and your choices should be yours to make, not dictated by some government bureaucrat far off in Washington, DC. That's the kind of libertarianism we're talking about, the common sense kind. So let's start off our Christmas list to Liberty Santa, dear Liberty Santa, first, can we have a return to common sense economics? Listen, we've been really good this year, at least, I'd like to think we have been and all we want is for politicians to stop treating the federal budget like it's their personal credit card with no limit. We're tired of inflation eating away at our savings while they tell us everything's fine. We just want some fiscal responsibility, liberty, Santa. Is that too much to ask? Number two, education freedom, Santa, could you please deliver some school choice to every family in America? Parents should be able to choose what's best for their kids without being trapped in failed government schools because of their zip code. It's like choosing where you want to shop for groceries. You wouldn't want to be stuck with one store, right? Also, Santa, can we have a media reset button? Like it'd be really cool if we could just get some honest journalism in our stockings. You know, the kind that reports facts without trying to push an agenda. That would be great, because we're tired of the spin. We're tired of the click bait, and, dare I say the corporate fake news also. Liberty Santa, we would love some tech freedom without the big tech tyranny. Because. Liberty Santa, we love social media where free speech actually means free speech, and where companies compete fairly without government picking winners and losers. But Liberty Santa, it's time for some of these tech giants to play nice with everyone or face the music, which is us leaving. Also Liberty Santa, how about some fiscal responsibility? I mean, we've had enough with the runaway government spending. Could you make sure Congress starts balancing the budget? We're not asking for miracles, but just some basic financial responsibility would be nice. That's like when we tell our kids that they can't have every toy they see in the store. We just want our government to act the same way. And by the way, how about a peaceful foreign policy? Because Liberty stand up, we're not looking for more wars or nation building. How about a foreign policy that focuses on peace, trade and diplomacy? We would love to see our tax dollars used for not nation building, but rather used here at home, like telling our neighbor, hey, let's be friends, not be enemies. And by the way, Liberty Santa, could we end the war on drugs? Because the War on Drugs has been a total disaster. Could you just help us legalize, I don't know, regulate and tax drugs so we can focus on education, treatment and reducing crimes instead of filling prisons. No, it's not a perfect Liberty solution, but I mean, this is like, instead of fighting the fire with gasoline, let's maybe instead fight it with a fire extinguisher. And how about a return to the rule of law? Because Santa, we're asking for a justice system that treats everyone equally, regardless of their race, religion, or more importantly, it seems in 2024 their political affiliations, how about a system where due process matters and where politicians are held to account for their actions? Liberty, Santa, we want a legal system that's fair, not one that picks winners and losers based on who's in charge, politically speaking. And how about protecting individual rights? Because Liberty Santa, we need help reminding our elected officials that the Bill of Rights isn't a suggestion. We love to see our rights to a free speech, self defense and privacy respected not a road. It we it's like when we remind our kids that the rules in the house apply to everyone, not just Billy and also liberty. Santa, can we, you know, promote some civil discourse? Because we're tired of shouting matches and cancel culture. We want a society where people can disagree without being disagreeable. Like, yeah, let's have the family dinner where everyone can share their their opinions without throwing the mash potatoes at each other. And Liberty Santa, my last ask would be, can you help folks learn how to sell this stuff the proper way? Because when we're talking to our friends and family about these ideas, we need to keep it simple and relatable, and liberty Santa, here's how I would do it. First, meet people where they're at start with common ground, like shared frustrations on government overreach or economic challenges, because no one likes feeling that their choices are being taken away. And how about focusing on practical solutions? So explaining how small l libertarian principles can solve very big real world problems, for example, how school choice can help us choose where to shop. For example, like school choice helping parents who are just searching for anywhere to bring their kids besides the terrible government schools, and also Santa Liberty Santa, help us understand how to relate policies to everyday life, like fiscal responsibility teaching kids how to not spend more than they earn. And by the way, it's important for us also to learn how to keep the libertarian jargon out of our words. So for example, we don't want something like a textbook when we're talking to folks, so use plain language that anyone can understand, like say freedom instead of the non Aggression Principle. And while we're at it, by the way, let's just take a step back here and touch on some common sense culture, right? And while we're at it, let's touch on some cultural common sense. I'm not talking about promoting some kind of like back to the 1950s nostalgia, but rather about preserving what's good and true in our culture, our traditions and our values. Small l libertarians can and should appreciate the need for Cultural Preservation while still advocating for individual freedom. And why does that matter? Well, because cultural common sense isn't about excluding others, but about ensuring that the melting pot doesn't become a cultural blender where everyone's identity is mixed in and lost. It's about preserving the unique flavors that make up our nation while still welcoming new ingredients into the mix. Think of it like we're baking Santa's cookies. You want to keep the classic recipe? Well, yeah, sure, still being able and open to new and exciting flavors. Listen, folks, we don't need to sound like we just finished reading an economics textbook to go ahead and make a difference. Sometimes saying less actually helps us sell Liberty more effectively. And the key to connecting these principles to people's everyday lives and showing them how Liberty based solutions can actually make their lives better is the secret ingredient. And hey, even if Liberty Santa doesn't bring us everything on our list this year, we'll keep working towards these goals, one conversation at a time with a smile on our faces and practical solutions in our back pockets. No, this isn't Santa Claus. This is Brian Nichols here today, reminding you that selling freedom doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes all it takes is a little Christmas spirit and some common sense. So get out there, spread some cheer, and don't forget to like, subscribe and share today's episode with someone who needs to hear it. Merry Christmas and may Liberty be with you.
